Position Product Manager - Electronic Commerce 

Main Duties 

I was originally employed to manage and oversee the integration of legacy systems to Internet enabled Business-to-Business and Business-to-Consumer offerings. 

The position has materially changed since I started, due to internal restructuring issues, where I was offered - and have accepted - a position as the Product manager for M-Web's Business-to-Business e-commerce product, E-Trade. Also, I am the product manager for M-Web's custom development. Soon, I will have the other e-commerce product, E-Commerce, which is the M-Web Business-to-Consumer offering. During the short time I have spent here, I have: 

  • Been a stand in Product manager for Connectivity 
  • Prepared and presented solutions on VPN's, Supplier Chain Management and e-Trade/e-Business.

 Main Duties 

 Project Leader(IS09) - Corporate Cash Management Systems 

Develop and maintain FNB's corporate customer interface into the Bank's systems. Included such projects as: 

First World system 

CAMS (COBOL/IMS/Hogan with PC front-end) 

Financial EDI 

Perform all normal project management tasks with 8 staff reporting directly.

Senior Systems Analyst 
  • A large site of 4 IBM 3090-type configurations under MVS/ESA using IMS & DB/2. Also numerous PC's running OS/2, DOS and Windows. 
  • Development support of the Support Services department of ISD. 
  • Creating and maintaining a Development environment with tools and utilities, acting as primary liaison with Operations as well as making strategic decisions on direction. 
  • Software Configuration Management (ENDEVOR). 
  • Led the project from primary investigation, justification, design, enhancement through to final implementation. 
  • Became recognised as an authority on SCM implementation. 
  • Downsizing of the development platform using MICROFOCUS COBOL & COBOL/2. 
  • Programming support of the PAC3 project management system, as well as PM/SS. 
  • Testing methodologies and environments 
  • Pajama terminal implementation, including security concerns. 
  Achievements 
  • Took over an ailing project team and turned it around with significant effect on moral, output quality and delivery. 
  • Successful implementation of ENDEVOR/MVS at First National Bank. Primary system - Hogan - now under ENDEVOR control. This led directly to an immediate reduction in failures in Live. 
  • Presented a paper to the CSSA (QSig) on Practical Software Configuration Management, September 1994. 
  • (In my own time). Prepared a paper on what could well be a new formulation or theory in the discipline of Value Engineering. This paper was submitted to top economist Jack Nishlosh and received a very favorable response.

  • Supervision and direction of four staff and one contractor in the development of small systems using Golden Gate, Dbase IV, SAS, RPF and other packages. 
  • Technical consultant in projects covering a Corporate DataBase and EDI, as well as general IT issues. 
  • Liaison with the main computer centre (AIS) at Modderfontein. 
  • Specialised technical assistance of regional offices around the country (e.g. Virus removal and advice).

Main Duties 

  • A large site, running an IBM 3090 200E with MVS/XA and IMS. 
  • Member of the Systems Development department of the company's IS division. As Team Leader I developed, implemented and maintained various mainframe applications. 
  • DATACOMM/IDEAL evaluation, set up, implementation and support. Project never completed due to company take-over by Momentum. 
  • MSA General Ledger versions 21.7 and 21.9 implementation and support, including Budget modules and Information Expert. 
  • Pensions Administration. An on-line system written entirely by myself with interfaces into MSA General Ledger. 
  • Actuarial Valuations. Maintained existing system and developed a batch BONUS RESERVE sub-system. 
  • Policy Valuations. Analysis, design, development of a full on-line and batch mainframe system to manage and quote on Policy Alterations. Team Leader of five programmers involved in construction and implementation. 
  • IBM PC . Self-taught in DOS and numerous packages, supported and maintained the departmental machine. 
  • JCL training. Gave several courses to Developers and trainees on JCL and MVS utilities.

  • A medium site running Burroughs 'Medium' and (later) 'Large' Burroughs mainframe systems.
